Did you know . . . ?
- Texas has more than 130 specialty license plate options, including "Read to Succeed," "Texans Conquer Cancer," and "Animal Friendly." Each of these plates raises money for a specific cause. It's time to add the Choose Life plate to the lineup!
- Choose Life license plates are already on the road in 19 other states and have raised more than $10 million to promote adoption. The funds raised from the sales of the plates help pregnancy resource centers, Gabriel Project Life Centers, maternity homes, adoption agencies, and other pro-life organizations to promote the option of adoption to women experiencing crisis pregnancies. Of the $30 fee for the specialty plate in Texas, $22 will go to this mission and the other $8 will cover Texas Department of Transportation's production costs.
- For every infant placed for adoption in Texas, 64 children are terminated by abortion. The Choose Life license plate will help reach more pregnant women with the loving alternative of adoption.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry officially endorsed the Choose Life license plate bill at a December 18 news conference at the state Capitol. See more photos! Gov. Perry reiterated his support for the bill and for promoting adoption at the 2009 Texas Rally for Life held January 24 at the Capitol.
It's about adoption!
Records* show infant adoption numbers in the U.S. plummeted following the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision by the Supreme Court that legalized abortion. Between 1951 and 1970, the number of domestic infant adoptions had risen from approximately 34,000 to 89,000. In 1974, the year after Roe, only 50,000 infants were adopted.
In addition, for every 100 nonmarital live births, only 1.5 percent are placed for adoption.*
The Choose Life license plate will raise funds to promote adoption by equipping pregnancy resource centers and other pro-life organizations like those listed above to capably offer this life-giving option to women. This will help turn the tide, promoting the choice of childbirth over abortion and assisting in the creation of healthy families through adoption.
